It was feared that the rare Adonis blue butterfly of Britain was going to disappear because it couldn't fly far when climate change and global warming was making its habitat unbearable. It adapted to this change evolving longer thoraxes and wings; it can now fly farther to cooler locales.

Addis Center for Capacity Building was founded in 2008 to provide capacity development, technical consultancy services and training in the following area:

  • Professional urban planning advice and consultancy
  • Providing local urban energy-related technical advice
  • Urban sector policy development
  • Energy auditing
  • Energy efficiency
  • Key adaptation tools
  • Energy monitoring and targeting

Adonis Blue's main objective is to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and in so doing, implicate both public and private agents.

Climate adaptation is herein understood as an integrated factor of the development process and its sustainability. It does not neglect the eventual conflict between climate adaptation and industrialisation or technology.

It aims to:

  • Influence the determination of goals for regulations concerning climate adaptability;
  • Develop responsible conducts of producers as to the manufactured goods and services they're offering (housing planing, selling of electrical power for instance);
  • Prevent deforestation and adapt agriculture to climate change;
  • Encourage consumers' behaviours that participate to climate adaptation.
